Aluminum Coil Stock

Coil stock is the mother format behind most of this catalogue: wide mill-finish coil that buyers slit, blank, form or coat. Signi Aluminium's grade listings publish coil stock figures grade by grade, and each grade's numbers stay with that grade.

Aluminum coil stock is bought as a starting material: the coil goes to a slitter, a blanking line, a roll former or a coating line. Signi's grade listings describe stock coil grade by grade: the 1050, 1060, 1100 and 3003 listings each publish thicknesses from 0.2 mm to 6.0 mm and widths from 80 mm to 2300 mm for that grade, supplied as DC (direct chill cast) or CC (continuously cast) mother coil with inside diameters of 76, 152, 408 or 508 mm. The 1350 electrical strip listing publishes its own narrower figures (0.2–4.0 mm, 30–1300 mm, inside diameters of 150, 300 and 500 mm). Surfaces on the grade listings include mill finish, mirror finish and checkered finish.

The tolerance figures are published on individual grade pages rather than as a range-wide promise: the 1060 listing, for example, states a thickness tolerance of ±0.02 mm and a width tolerance of +2/−0 mm, and cap closure sheet listings state their own tighter figures. For that reason the quotation for a coil stock order should always name the grade page the specification comes from — tolerances, tempers and finishes are grade-specific in this catalogue.

Where coil stock goes

  • Slitting and strip conversion — the slit coil page covers narrow widths cut from mother coil.
  • Blanking and pressing — including the aluminium circles blanked for cookware on the disc page.
  • Coating lines — color coated and prepainted products start from stock coil in the listed alloy families.
  • Forming and fabrication — sheet and plate cut from coil for industrial fabrication.

If you already know the alloy, the fastest route is the grade page: 3003, 5052 and 1050 are the most commonly specified coil grades in this range, and each page repeats the published specification for that grade only. If the alloy is still open, send the application and the finished part dimensions — the reply will point to the grade listings that match.

Reading a coil stock quotation

A useful coil stock quotation in this catalogue names five things: the grade page the specification is taken from, the temper, the thickness and width with their tolerances, the coil inside diameter and maximum coil weight your line accepts, and the packing orientation (eye to sky or eye to wall). If any of the five is missing, the price is not yet comparable with another supplier's — the listings here publish the first three per grade, and the last two are settled order by order. Buyers running a slitting programme often quote the mother coil and the slitting together; the slit coil page explains how that combination is normally structured.

Lead time is published per product, not inherited across the range. The coil grade listings publish delivery within 30 days, with the platform listing adding the peak/off-season split. Finished products publish their own figures where their listings state them — the powder coated sheet listing, for example, publishes around 15 days — and where a finished product's listing states no lead time, the quotation confirms it for that product. A coated, slit or blanked product starts from mother coil as a material, but its delivery position is its own listing's, not the coil listing's.

Can coil stock be supplied pre-slit?

Yes — slit coil is a listed product in its own right; see the aluminum slit coil page. State the slit widths and the coil inside diameter you need.

What documents come with a coil order?

The listings name the mill test certificate and certificates of origin (Form E, Form A, CO). Ask for the certificate set for your grade when you enquire.

Is the 0.2–6.0 mm range available in every grade?

No — 0.2–6.0 mm is what the named structured listings (1050, 1060, 1100, 3003) each publish for their own grade. Other grades publish their own ranges (1350 strip, for example, is listed at 0.2–4.0 mm). The grade page governs.
