Aluminum Plate

Plate is where this range gets heavy: hot rolled plate, mould plate and marine plate, with the marine listing publishing thicknesses from 6 mm to 300 mm.

The plate range is documented most completely on the supplier's Made-in-China listings. The marine aluminium alloy plate listing covers hot rolled plate in two alloy groups — a 1xxx/3xxx/8xxx group (1050 through 8011, tempers F/O) and a 5xxx/6xxx/7xxx/2xxx group (5052, 5A02, 5A03, 5A05, 5251, 5181, 5083, 5086, 6061, 6082, 6063, 7075, 2024, tempers F/O/H111/H112/T4/T6/T651) — at thicknesses of 6–300 mm, widths of 500–2700 mm and lengths of 1000–10000 mm. A stretched plate variant on the same listing is published at 6–70 mm thick and 2000–10000 mm long.

Alongside the marine listing, the published plate families include hot rolled plate in 5052, mould plate in 6061/6063, thick plate in 2024 and the Chinese aviation-designation grades 2B06/2A06/2A11, precision plate in 5052 and 5083, and plate for oil tanker, boat, lighting and electronic products. The two biggest buying questions separate cleanly: the marine plate programme for the corrosion-resistant 5xxx plate, and the grade data for 5083 and 5454 where tanker and marine buyers usually land.

Plate pricing and availability turn on the exact alloy, temper and cut size, and plate minimums are not published as a range-wide figure on these listings — they are confirmed per order. The useful enquiry therefore names the alloy and temper (for example 5083 H111), the thickness and the cut dimensions, and whether you want mill plate or cut pieces.

Cut sizes and plate handling

Plate in this thickness range is normally ordered as cut pieces rather than full mill plates, and the marine listing's published length range (1000–10000 mm) reflects that: plate is sawn to the sizes a fabricator's nesting plan calls for. When you enquire, send the cut list — alloy, temper, thickness and each piece size with quantities — rather than a single overall dimension; the quotation can then be built on the published plate programme with the cutting yield visible, instead of on a full-plate assumption that inflates the tonnage.

Thick plate also changes the packing conversation. The photographs on the plate pages show plate stacked with paper interleaving on pallets, which is the published packing style for this family. For marine and mould plate, surface condition on arrival matters to machining and welding preparation, so state any requirement — interleaving, film, edge condition after sawing — in the enquiry rather than after the quotation.

If your project mixes plate with sheet or coil — a common pattern in boat and tank work — the enquiry can cover all three forms in one message: the plate programme here, the grade sheet pages, and the coil stock range are all quoted by the same supplier, and a combined enquiry keeps the alloy and temper choices consistent across the forms.

What is the thickest plate available?

The marine plate listing publishes up to 300 mm. Thicknesses above the stretched-plate range (6–70 mm) follow the standard hot rolled route on that listing.

Can plate be supplied in 7075 or 2024?

Both alloys appear in the marine plate listing's alloy groups, and 2024 has its own thick plate listing. Confirm temper and size in the quotation — availability is size-dependent.

Do you publish a plate price list?

No. The two blog guides on coil and plate pricing explain what a plate quotation is built from; the price itself is quoted per specification.
